Julio Mejia — Executive Director

Born at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, MA, Julio grew up in Lawrence, the youngest of eight children—five brothers and two sisters—in a family that faced many of the challenges working-class communities face, including housing instability and economic hardship.

Julio’s passion for justice and advocacy started early, shaped by his family’s experiences and his mother’s dedication to building a better life. His mother, a single parent, worked full-time while earning her degree.

His journey as an organizer began in high school, where he advocated for equitable school funding and student voice. Julio went on to serve in local government, focusing on constituent services and community engagement before fully committing to community organizing.

At MVP, Julio has led successful campaigns to fight hospital closures, strengthen tenant protections, and secure better wages for workers. He’s worked tirelessly to mobilize voters across Massachusetts and champion gig worker rights. As Executive Director, he is dedicated to organizing for change and empowering those who have been left behind by a system that often fails to recognize their humanity.

When he’s not organizing, Julio enjoys spending time outdoors, especially walking and biking around the Merrimack Valley. He’s a fan of exploring new food spots and supporting local businesses. In his downtime, Julio enjoys reading, watching new TV shows, staying connected with his community, and relaxing with family and friends.

Julio currently lives in Lawrence, where he continues to be an active member of his community.
